Sometimes we have
questions. Sometimes we have
doubts. Or we've been looking for the truth forever. Or we think we are hearing
God speak to us and we're wondering if we're crazy. At these times and many
other times, it can help to have a spiritual coach; a safe place to talk with
someone about our spiritual life.
What is Spiritual
Coaching?
(also known as Spiritual
Direction)
Spiritual coaching is focusing our
attention and our intention
on discerning where we
are and where God is in our life
through questioning,
listening, reflection, and prayer
with the companionship
of a trained spiritual guide.
Spiritual Direction is
NOT psychotherapy.
Who needs spiritual
direction?
Anyone who is searching,
yearning, or questioning God...no matter how much or how little faith, trust,
experience, or knowledge you have...regardless of religious background.
How do spiritual
direction sessions work?
We meet one on one, (or
in a group) approximately once a month, to discuss, listen/look at life and
where God might be in it or not in it...we will begin wherever you are and go
from there...
What do others say
about the experience of Spiritual Direction?
“The art of spiritual
direction lies in our uncovering the obvious in our lives and in realizing that
everyday events are the means by which God tries to reach us. Although
spiritual direction resembles other helping professions it is not the same as
therapy or pastoral counseling. It more resembles one-on-one discernment for
spiritual meaning and relevancy in everyday life. [Discernment is an
organic process. It is living, breathing, grounded in Spirit and yet
unpredictable. Discernment is the process by which we determine God’s leading,
God’s presence in our lives.] This process is a journey which requires
continuity and commitment over a period of time. It is the process of knowing ourselves
in relationship to God. “
