YOU BELONG HERE

A writing of mine from August 26, 2021

I think I have shared this quote before but it seems still true to me. I did spend a lot of my life looking for evidence that I didn't belong anywhere. And I found plenty of it. A girl born in Madagscar to missionary parents, a pastor's daughter, a bit of tomboy who loved playing dolls, etc. I had plenty of not-fitting-in evidence. I found lots of distance, both physical and emotional. Another way to say this is "you will always find what you are looking for." It is what we focus on that grows most. Evenso, we have to hold that in balance with the wisdom that comes from looking at the painful parts and finding the truth in them. I am grateful to Brene Brown for sharing her wisdom.
“Stop walking through the world looking for confirmation that you don't belong. You will always find it because you've made that your mission. Stop scouring people's faces for evidence that you're not enough. You will always find it because you've made that your goal. True belonging and self-worth are not goods; we don't negotiate their value with the world. The truth about who we are lives in our hearts. Our call to courage is to protect our wild heart against constant evaluation, especially our own. No one belongs here more than you.”
